Home design in Trivandrum: architecture, interiors and landscape, designed together.

One drawing set. The whole home.

The building, the rooms inside it and the ground it stands in, resolved by one studio. For families building in Trivandrum and across Kerala, including families designing from the Gulf.

What does complete home design include?

Complete home design, as Radianz Architects practises it in Trivandrum, covers everything needed to resolve a house as one livable home: the architecture, the interiors, the landscape and external spaces, the lighting and materials, the kitchens and bathrooms, the compound wall and gate, and the structural and services coordination that ties them together.

What goes wrong when a home is designed in pieces.

Most Kerala houses are designed three times.

  1. The shell is drawn first. An architect or draftsman fixes the walls, the windows and the ceiling heights before anyone has thought about the rooms.
  2. The interior designer arrives later and fights the plan. The kitchen window is where the tall units need to go. The ceiling is too low for the concealed lighting. The pooja room is on the wrong wall.
  3. The garden gets whatever is left. A landscape contractor makes do with the ground the plinth and the septic tank left behind, and the verandah faces the afternoon sun.
  4. Every hand-over costs money. Walls move after they are built. Conduits are cut into finished plaster. On paper the same collision costs a redraw.
A house designed three times is paid for three times. Once on paper, twice on site.

Inside a home

How we design a home.

Stand on the plotBefore anything is drawn: how it faces, where the western sun comes from, which way the monsoon wind blows, what the setback rules allow, what the budget can carry.
ConceptThe plan, the massing, the elevations and 3D views, argued from the site and your family’s life rather than a catalogue of styles. You see the house before you commit to it.
Design developmentInteriors and landscape resolved while the shell is still on the board, so the dining room lines up with the courtyard and the master bedroom escapes the evening heat.
Drawings a builder can build fromWorking drawings, structural and MEP coordination, the municipal set for approvals, and the detail sheets that decide whether a staircase is elegant or merely present.
Site reviewThrough construction we check the work against the drawings, because this is where a design is won or lost.

Why families bring the whole house to one studio.

  1. One drawing board is faster than three. The interior designer and the landscape designer are already in the room when the plan is drawn.
  2. We have drawn on Trivandrum plots since 1999. The old streets of Kowdiar and Sasthamangalam, the new plots past Technopark, and the towns hours away. We know how the land sits and what the rules allow.
  3. The fee is written down, stage by stage. Agreed before work starts, so it never surprises you.
  4. We stay through construction. The drawings are reviewed against the site as it is built, whoever the contractor is.

The cheapest room to move is the one that is still on paper.

Building your Kerala home from the Gulf?

Many of the houses we design are for families overseas. Online design reviews, digital drawings and 3D walk-throughs, structured revisions, and family in Kerala involved as much as you want. The design does not need you on site.

Questions families ask before starting.

How do architects charge for a complete home design in Kerala?
Design fees in Kerala are usually structured one of three ways: as a percentage of the construction value, per square foot of built area, or as a fixed fee per stage. We work on written, fixed fees per stage, agreed before that stage begins, so the concept, the development and the drawings each have a known cost.
Do you build the house as well?
We design the house, produce the drawings the builder works from, and review the construction against them. You appoint the contractor, and we are happy to work with one we know or one you bring. What matters is that the design is complete before construction starts.
How long does the design stage take?
It depends on the size of the house and how quickly decisions come back, but the shape is always the same: a concept first, design development next, then the full working drawings. Each stage ends with something you can see and approve before the next begins.
Can you work with a small plot or a tight budget?
Yes. A small plot with a tight budget is often harder to design than a large one, and we take that work seriously. Tell us the budget at the first conversation rather than the last, because the budget is a design input, not a filter applied afterwards.
Do you handle building permits?
We prepare the municipal drawing set and coordinate the structural and services information the approval needs. The application itself runs through the local body and its licensed process; we support it with the documents and revisions it asks for.

Tell us about your plot.
